Everyone deserves to cook a good biryani — including everyone who visits DesiNom. We’re committed to making our site usable for all readers, including people who rely on assistive technologies, keyboard navigation, or other accessibility tools.
What We’re Doing
Accessibility isn’t a one-time checkbox for us; it’s part of how we build and maintain the site. Here are the concrete steps we take:
- Clear, semantic structure: Our articles use proper heading hierarchy (one main title, then logical subheadings), so screen readers can navigate a recipe the same way sighted readers scan it.
- Alt text on images: Every image on DesiNom carries descriptive alt text, so if you can’t see a photo, you’ll still know what it shows — whether it’s a finished dish or a step in the method.
- Keyboard navigability: The site is built to be fully navigable by keyboard. If you tab through our pages, you’ll reach every link, button, and form field in a sensible order.
- Readable design: We use a clean WordPress theme with strong text contrast and legible font sizes. Recipes are broken into short paragraphs and clear steps — which, honestly, makes them easier for everyone to follow mid-cooking.
- Descriptive links: We aim for link text that makes sense on its own (“our chicken karahi recipe” rather than “click here”), so screen reader users know where a link leads before following it.
Where We Know We Can Improve
We’re honest about this: no site is ever perfectly accessible, and ours is a work in progress. Older articles may have images with less detailed alt text, and embedded third-party content (like Pinterest pins) doesn’t always meet the same standards we hold our own content to. We’re fixing these as we go.
Feedback and Contact
If you encounter any accessibility barrier on DesiNom — a page that’s hard to navigate, an image missing a description, a form that doesn’t work with your setup — please tell us. Accessibility feedback goes straight to the top of our fix list.
Reach us through our contact page or email [email protected]. When you write, it helps to include:
- Which page you were on
- What you were trying to do
- What assistive technology or browser you’re using
We’ll do our best to respond promptly and resolve the issue.
Ongoing Commitment
We review this statement and our site’s accessibility periodically, especially when adding new features or redesigning pages. The goal is simple: a site where the only barrier between you and a great recipe is an empty stomach.
